Complete Instructor Course

Group Skills and Coaching Skills

Being able to operate safely in the outdoors is just one part of the requirements of a good outdoor professional. Just as important is the ability to coach and look after other people whilst participating in outdoor pursuits. During the course we will be teaching group management and leadership skills. It is important that outdoor instructors have an awareness of how confidence, motivation and self esteem can impact on a person's ability to learn and participate in group activities. During the programme we will be reviewing your activities and your progress; by using a range of reviewing tools you will also be developing these skills so you have the confidence and understanding of this subject by the end of the course.

Coaching Experience

Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to coach clients and gain the vital experience that comes with this. We offer a saturday morning 'Adventure Club' to local schools and families who want to come out and learn canoe and kayak skills from our trainee instructors. Whilst there will always be a qualified instructor at the sessions, you the students will take complete responsibility to plan and deliver the activities to the clients.

It is essential that you gain this coaching experience to enable you to move from the Level 1 paddle coach to the Level 2 training.
