Week 10 - Paddling skills
More paddle skills this week. The group have been spilt to alternate between canoe and kayak skills as they work towards the British Canoe Union 2 Star award. Much of the canoe training takes place on journeys down the river so that students gain the wider skills of planning, route finding and carrying the right equipment. Two people paddling a canoe is fairly straight forward on flat water however paddling it alone or solo takes considerably more skill as you need to be able to paddle from one side all the time. It is a suprisingly technical sport; this years students are doing well to progress so quickly.
